Looking the Other Way
I was reading through an article the other day which made me start thinking about just where my priorities really are.
The Bible is full of “last days prophecies”, some of which have come to pass, and some which have not. I’d like to share a few of these with you and see if you come to the same conclusion that I did.
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. II Peter 2:1-2 Nowadays, you often run into folks who reject some parts of the Bible (or misinterpret it) because of what they heard a false teacher say.

Exhorting One Another
Exhorting one another – Exhort means “to aid, help, comfort, encourage, and beseech.” In the world we live in with all its temptations and distractions to divert and pull us from our calling (1 Thessalonians 4:7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. ) every one of us needs exhortation to strive harder to stand firm.

Lasting Joy
The Lord in His wisdom has brought me back to the unemployment line and as of this writing I am again out of a job. My first thoughts were, “God is in control, I have nothing to worry about.” It was just a little over two months ago that I had lost my job and in two weeks the Lord had blessed me with another job closer to home! I was filled with confidence that He would have me working again in a short matter of time. But as the days go by, reality starts tapping me on the shoulder as I spend hours scouring the internet for Architectural firms to send my resume to. I go to interviews and days later, sit looking at the phone waiting for it to ring.

God’s Grace is Sufficient!
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. II Corinthians 12:9

Sit down and eat
I have to imagine that everyone has experienced the torture of being at a thanksgiving dinner which is still in the process of being prepared and you are as hungry as a bear. The aroma from the kitchen can be noticed from the outside of the home. The agony comes by the fact that possibly you didn’t eat breakfast that morning, or breakfast was early and its 2:00 in the afternoon while the initial pains of hunger are knawing at your stomach and all you can think of is filling it up. Finally, after what seems an eternity, everyone is asked to come to the table. Thanks and praise is given to the one who provides all good things, and the meal begins. A quick 10 to 20 minutes later (depending on how much conversation has happened) a meal that took hours to prepare is gone and everyone, including yourself are satisfied.

What’s in your heart?
I can not, at this moment think of anything I could gain (as far as change goes) from examining my sinful behavior and asking why I do it, to refrain from that behavior.

The TRUTH will set you Free
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32 I believe that this verse not only pertains to Jesus in reference to us being set free from eternal damnation, but also being free from the bondage of sin. Habitual sin will have devastating effects on one’s relationships including family, work, church and the most important, the relationship with God. Do not put out the Spirits fire; I Thessalonians 5:19 (some versions “quench” the Spirit) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4:30 Quenching is what we do to the Holy Spirit, grieving is how he responds.

Single Mindedness
“If any of you lack wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.” James 1:5-8.
