ATTENTION ALL USHERS . . .
Just a brief note to communicate a few reminders and to distribute a new schedule. We are trying to place a much stronger emphasis on making a great “first impression” on visitors as well as doing our best to meet people’s needs. Please incorporate the following expectations into your ushering ministry to help us accomplish the goal. Thanks for being willing to faithfully serve!!
USHERING EXPECTATIONS:
1) Collect the offering.
2) Keep an eye for newcomers and visitors. Please aid in distributing the visitor’s packets. We truly need to get them a visitor packet (complete with pen) BEFORE the service, if possible, so that they can complete the Guest Information Card and return it. Try to be intentional but not “pushy” about them filling out the card. Without it, it is impossible to do
any follow-up with them.
3) Greet the people. Say hello to lots of people. Try to call people by their name. Shake a lot of hands. Just extend a friendly and personable greeting that communicates that we are
glad that they came to worship the Lord with us.
4) Help seat the worshippers. We want to make a concerted effort to leave the back two rows somewhat empty for parents with small children and newcomers. As latecomers arrive, stay in the back for awhile to help facilitate seating. Sometimes, rearranging the
chairs is even necessary at the last moment.
5) Be aware and available for unexpected needs. We want our ushers to be ready to help out with unexpected issues. Perhaps a parent needs help with an unruly child and we can direct them to the back. Maybe, someone is not feeling well and needs direction to the restroom. It could be that someone’s chair is not working right and is in danger of “folding up” on them. Or someone may desire a bulletin that did not receive one. The different
scenarios are endless. We want to have a general attitude of readiness for service.
6) Be on time. In fact, please be early. We need our ushers ready to serve BEFORE the service. If you are involved in a conversation or something of the like, please dismiss yourself in a timely manner so that you can serve as an effective usher.
THANK YOU for your service each and every week. Ushering is a very important ministry! It is much more than just passing the offering plate. It truly is the “first line” of ministry to people on any given Sunday. Please help to maximize our church’s ministry to people by implementing the above expectations. Again, thanks for your ministry!
