UNCERTIAN TIMES
My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power. I Corinthians 2:4-5
Wow! The content of this passage and what came before it and after it really hit home for me. If you are watching any of the news lately, you’ve probably heard several different comments, statements, and or ideas on what should be done to get our economy going again. Billions of dollars have already been spent and arguments over where billions of dollars should be allocated is the focus of every news program on the TV and radio airwaves. My wife Rosie and I have had several conversations between ourselves and our financial advisor on what we should do or not do to our 401K plans. Whose wisdom should we believe in so we can take the best course of action to insure our financial future?
Paul wanted people to know that what he was saying was not coming from his own human wisdom, but from the Holy Spirit himself. The passage goes on; We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. I Corinthians 2:6-7 Paul is speaking of spiritual things here, not our physical well being, but I believe that there is some broader application here. He is saying that the wisdom shown in the gospel is divine in its origin, and that“the wisdom of this age or the rulers of this age” is a perishable thing which, like themselves, are born for one brief day. Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14
What ever the leaders of our country decide to do to revive the economy, they will do. What ever decision Rosie and I make concerning our 401K disbursements, in the long run doesn’t really matter. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be concerned about how we plan for our future, but ultimately, our main concern should be about the Lord’s affairs not ours. I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife—and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord. I Corinthians 7:32-35
We worship the creator of the universe, the fullness of His power can not be grasped intellectually! Even so, we have full access of God’s power through faith in Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Our future need not depend on how secure our 401K plan is. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the aground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31 Our future is already secure! There is nothing, I repeat, nothing for us to worry about. So when we step out of the house today, tomorrow (Lord willing), lets be about how we can bring about glory to God, not about ourselves.
